Our shop car, the 1964 Dodge Polara you see on our site and social media has a flat-tappet solid lifter system that requires a higher zinc content in the engine's oil that helps protect the metal on metal contact when we are thrashing around the backroads or cruising the highway. The few brands on the market that provide the zinc levels we need are, Lucas, Valvoline ZR-1, and AMSOIL Z-ROD.
While these brands used to be readily available, COVID put a strain on the market. AMSOIL was the only company I could get the oil I needed, so I gave them a shot.
Not only does the old Poly-318 run smoother, but the oil pressure is also better, and the throttle response and fuel mileage even improved!
From that point on I decided to switch all our vehicles over to AMSOIL products and never looked back!
Not only does AMSOIL Z-ROD provide the higher Zinc levels needed, but they made sure to formulate a unique blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors to ensure maximum protection during longer parked times or when you store your car for winter. In industry-standard testing, the Z-ROD completely prevented rust formation while a leading competitor did not!
